Equipment to support learning

It is useful to have the following items available at home:

  • Atlas (Philip’s Modern School Atlas)
  • Dictionary (Concise Oxford)

All students should have a backpack or bag to carry books, papers and equipment to and from St John’s and a separate bag for PE kit.

Items which are needed:

Pen • Pencil (HB) • Ruler (with centimetre and millimetre markings) • compass • set square • protractor • scientific calculator

Items which are desirable:

Coloured pencils or pens • pencil eraser • pencil sharpener • pencil case • pocket dictionary.

All these items are available from the stationery shop in the Library.

Materials for Design and Technology

DT Materials are provided by the Academy and paid for by students, who keep their own work.

Food Technology students are asked to contribute the main ingredients from home for practical dishes. These dishes will be taken home on completion.

Students should keep any necessary money with them at all times. Large sums of money should not be brought in except in an emergency, when they should be handed in to the Key Workers in F223 for safekeeping. No responsibility can be taken for money left in school bags. Money brought in to pay for an activity should be in a sealed envelope, clearly marked with the student’s name and tutor group and what it is payment for. Such payments should be posted into the Financial Mailbox, located in the Atrium.
