Kieran Short competed at the English Schools National Combined Events Championships in Boston, Lincolnshire last weekend (16/17 September). Kieran joined the small team of Wiltshire athletes for two days of stiff competition. Kieran, who is decathlete, had to compete in 100m, Long Jump, Shot put, High Jump and 400m on day one, and 110m Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin and 1500m on day two.
Day one, Saturday, began at 09:30 with 100m and he finished his last event at 18:00 – a long day. Kieran was back on the track at 09:00 the following morning to compete in the 110m hurdles.
Kieran’s final event on Sunday was the 1500m which he ran very well and ended the competition in 21st place overall. A fantastic achievement on his first time out as a senior at these Championships, especially since he set a new Personal Best of 2.8m in the Pole Vault, bettering his previous PB by 40cm!
Kieran is the only decathlete from Wiltshire and was selected to represent the county after representing St John’s and Wiltshire at the South West schools event at Yeovil in June. The team managers are already planning for next year’s finals which will be held at Bedford.
Many congratulations Kieran – we will continue to follow your sporting career with interest!
